Tooth Whitening

Tooth whitening is a process known as oxidation. Any discolorations within the tooth will be lightened.

Organic materials break down to remove staining and create a whiter brighter smile.

It can be highly effective at enhancing people’s appearance, hence why it has become so popular and widely used by both men and women of all ages who are looking to achieve a fresh, whiter smile through a non-invasive procedure.

The process of whitening, is very simple:

Firstly an initial examination is needed to ensure that the patient is aware of the procedure. Also within the first appointment, Dr Julie Ghaly will give your teeth a thorough clean to remove any tartar and surface stain, so that the teeth are ready for the whitening process
An impression is then taken of the upper and lower jaws, so that thin mouthguards can be made by our technicians in the laboratory
Within a week, the mouthguards are then ready, a 5min appointment with Dr Julie Ghaly is required to try in the mouthguards and see the fit, then we give you the whitening kits, so that you can proceed with the whitening treatment at your leisure at home
At home, you then place the whitening gel into the custom trays and place directly onto your teeth, which will remain on your teeth for around 30 minutes. The whitening gel is broken down and oxygen enters the enamel and dentin (of your teeth), and the stains are “dissolved”

What are the side effects?

For the majority of our patients, there are none. However, some will experience temporary sensitivity (dull or sharp and sensitivity to hot/cold). This will subside after several hours of ceasing treatment. If the sensitivity continues, you can shorten the length of wearing the custom trays to 20 minutes or maybe every second day. We also recommend using sensodyne or sensitive tooth paste to help with your sensitivity, whilst completing the process, which will take approximately 2 weeks.

Porcelain Crown

A crown is a cap-like structure that is permanently bonded to a particular tooth to provide superior aesthetics and function. Crowns are a discreet and effective way of restoring and strengthening damaged, broken or weakened teeth. Each crown is individually modeled to fit perfectly over your existing tooth, making it strong and giving it a natural appearance.

Crowns can be made from a variety of different materials, which are:

  • Porcelain Crowns
  • Porcelain fused to metal Crowns
  • Gold Crowns

Benefits of Crowns:

  • Prevent further teeth from shifting/moving
  • Improve your ability to chew and speak
  • Durable and resilient
  • Maintain facial structure
  • Restore smile confidence

Porcelain Crowns are the most popular choice for the most natural looking and pleasing results. Understandably crowns do cost more than a large filling, but longevity and strength of crowns far outweighs the initial investment over the life of the tooth.

Process of porcelain crown treatments:

The tooth or teeth must be prepared or reduced in size so that the crown will fit perfectly, without feeling like it’s too big or foreign. Then an impression is taken to provide an exact mould of your teeth, which then gets sent off to our dental laboratory, where the crown or bridge is made. Dr Julie Ghaly will then place a temporary crown or bridge, so that you look exactly the same as when you walked into our practice. And finally we take the shade to colour match to your other teeth, so the crown or bridge will blend completely with your natural tooth colour. If we are working on a front tooth, then Dr Julie Ghaly will also get our technician to come in and select the shade and take some photos to get that perfect aesthetic result you are looking for.

If your choice of treatment is porcelain veneers, the process is exactly the same as for a crown or bridge, except only the front portion of your tooth will be reduced in size, as it only covers part of the tooth, not covering all of the natural tooth structure like a crown.

Porcelain Bridge

What is a Bridge?

A Bridge is an excellent way of restoring the appearance of a patient’s smile if they are missing one or two teeth, or if they prefer not to wear dentures. It prevents your adjacent teeth from moving into the vacant space and opposing teeth moving out of alignment also. They are effective at restoring a natural smile, holding the remaining teeth in place, and reducing the susceptibility of the patient’s remaining teeth to decay and gum disease.

The bridge is a custom made permanent false tooth, that is fixed to the remaining natural tooth structure, either side of the space/missing tooth. The results can be excellent with great function and appearance.

Porcelain Veneers

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain Veneers are a thin facing, tooth coloured porcelain shell, similar to a false fingernail which are carefully crafted in a laboratory to bond to natural tooth structure. This technique enables us to change and improve the aesthetics of your natural tooth structure such as position, shade and shape of your teeth.

Veneers are a cosmetic alternative for a number of dental issues, which includes:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Spaces/gaps between teeth
  • Broken down or badly chipped teeth
  • Permanently stained or discoloured teeth
  • Aged veneers that need replacing
